Dr. Benjamin C. Wilson, Jr.
Memorial Scholarship Endowment
For over thirty years, Dr. Benjamin C. Wilson, Jr. educated students about the “Black Experience,” and through his original teaching style, emphasized the importance of understanding history and the contributions of Black people on American culture. He was also amongst the original core faculty involved in developing Western Michigan University's Black Americana Studies program, which has evolved throughout the years into the Institute for Intercultural and Anthropological Studies.
After a two-year, seven-month, 9-day battle following a cardiac arrest and resultant anoxia to his brain, Dr. Wilson passed away on November 27, 2024. The Dr. Benjamin C. Wilson, Jr. Memorial Scholarship was created in remembrance of him, to honor his legacy and provide financial assistance to WMU students with interests in the history of Black America.
